Basic Information
The land of Runefell is on the planet Luminas, which is the Luminescence star system. Luminas is slightly larger than Earth, and orbits two stars. It has no moon, merely pieces of one held mostly together by its gravitational field. It has a relatively large, but quick orbit. In earth's terms, it would have an 18 month year and 26 hour day. Time is measured rather differently- time of day is measured by the position of the sun. The date is simple, the summer solstice is 0 and the numbers count upwards until the next summer solstice. The season and year are written after the number (ex. 167 Autumn 11062, 478 Spring 367 AII)
Runefell is a relatively wild land with a couple of larger kingdoms, but is mainly populated with smaller towns and settlements. The land is divided into two parts, the North and the South, which are separated by a mountain range. The climate is generally warm, though the South is known for chilly winters.
There are two main kingdoms, Carmagelian (in the South) and Lykosleos (in theNorth). The third kingdom, the Fells, is isolated from the rest of the land by the same mountain range dividing the North and the South and it is made of three cities; Moonguard, Deephelm and Lightfell. Cayline and Amouri are also significant places, Cayline being a large marketplace city and a Amouri being a hunting town and trade center. Both are popular with the nomadic folk.
Runefell is a land deeply involved with magic. Most citizens have it, and many are able to wield it, though it is usually channeled through runes, spells or objects. With the heavy concentration of magic (and a different atmosphere), citizens of Runefell usually live an elongated life with an average lifespan of 150-300 years (200-500 for royal or deity bloodlines) depending on the type of magic the citizen has. There are many types of magic, each one is an element or concept such as air, water, time, chaos or life. The types are sorted into two categories, Light or Dark, by the effect they have on the user. Light magic (shadow, cold, air) preserves the mind more than the body, resulting in a shorter lifespan, and Dark magic preserves the body more than the mind.
There are no pure humans in Runefell, but there are mixes, crossbreds - anything over 50% human is considered human, with a few exceptions. Likewise, the other main sentient species are referred to as direwolves, but they are biologically very different from what we would consider a wolf. The same rule applies, anything over 50% is considered direwolf. There are quite a few other races, such as feline-like, equine-like, reptile-like, though they are usually region specific.
